Cooking Tips for Best Results

Before you start air frying, be sure to follow these simple steps for the best results:

1. Don’t overcrowd the fryer basket. This ensures a light and crispy exterior.

2. Begin to air fry your food within a few minutes of tossing in the oil.

3. Use oil sparingly. Naturally fatty foods like chicken wings and bone-in pork chops don’t need extra oil—just season with salt or your favorite spices before air frying.

4. Say no to stacking. For the quickest and most even results, arrange foods in a single layer, allowing enough room for foods to be tossed or shaken easily during cooking.

5. Use small pieces. For quicker cooking and the tastiest (and juiciest!) outcome, cut large steaks into two to four pieces and chop vegetables into bite-size pieces.

6. Take care with quick-cooking ingredients. When air frying different ingredients at the same time, put faster-cooking ingredients in the air fryer later in the process, or cut them into larger pieces so they’ll cook at the same rate as sturdier ingredients like potatoes.

7. Gently shake. Smaller ingredients in the fryer basket will need a little shake halfway through cooking (or every 5 to 10 minutes) to help them cook evenly and enhance their crispy texture.

8. Don’t add oil. Prepackaged frozen foods don’t need additional oil before being air fried.

9. Use caution. When preparing highly greasy foods (like sausages) in the air fryer, use caution as excessive fat dripping into the pan can cause smoking.

10. It’s okay to pull the basket out. At any time throughout the cooking cycle you may pull out the basket to check on the progress–most models will automatically shut off while the basket is out and resume when it’s pushed back in. If food isn’t sufficiently fried when the timer goes off, set the timer for a few extra minutes and continue cooking.

11. Use caution with hot tools. Always set the basket, pan and any accessories on a heat-resistant surface when frying is complete, as these tools get very hot during the cooking process.

12. Use tongs. When air frying larger or delicate foods, use tongs to lift them out of the fryer basket. Otherwise, you can often turn the food out directly onto a serving bowl or platter. (Be careful with models that have a removable tray. The tray doesn’t always stay put when turned upside down.)

13. Pour out excess oil after each batch. If you’ve been prepping fatty ingredients and excess oil has collected in the bottom of the basket, pour it out before cooking anything else.
